Time

Due to the varying rotational and orbital periods of each world in the Commonwealth, a variety of calendars and clocks are in use, along with the many religious calendars often used to determine religious holidays.

L'nhraei's calendar and clock are both based on Earth's. The day contains 24 hours of 60 minutes of 60 seconds, but with a slightly longer second than the SI standard. The L'nhraei second is defined as "the duration of 9,705,504,018 periods of the radiation corresponding to the transition between the two hyperfine levels of the ground state of the caesium 133 atom." This is about 1.0558 times longer than the standard second of 9,192,631,770 periods. L'nhraei has 25 standard time zones, centred on L'nhraei Mean Time (LMT) in ch'Taala, each one hour apart, and one zone, the Tarak Islands, at LMT-7:30. Time zone map

Also like Earth, there are 12 months, named Messidor, Thermidor, Fructidor, Vendemiaire, Brumaire, Frimaire, Nivose, Pluviose, Ventose, Germinal, Floreal, and Prairial. Every third month is 30 days, with all others having 29. In leap years, however, a 30th day is added to Thermidor. A leap day is added every odd year, as well as every year which is a multiple of 10, unless divisible by 200. Also, the years 2010, 4010, 6010, and 8010 are not leap years.

Each week has seven days, with the same names as on Earth. However, to avoid confusion with Tuesday and Saturday, Thursday is often abbreviated "R" and Sunday as "U".

Years are reckoned "ab urbe condita", from the founding of the city ch'Taala in 1 AUC. The year before was 1 PUC, "prior urbe condita". There is no year 0. 00:00:00 LMT on 1 Messidor 1 AUC occurred at 15:32:28 UTC on 17 May AD 2313.

The dates of the equinoxes and solstices fall on the following dates (southern hemisphere seasons, reversed in the northern hemisphere):
