Magna Carta (21 Germinal 1078 PUC)
In 1078 PUC, several English barons forced King John to sign the Magna Carta, granting them certain rights and freedoms. While it applied only to the nobility, this was perhaps the first time the power of a king had been limited by a written document. Rights such as trial by jury were first specified here, and later expressions of individual rights, including the Commonwealth Constitution, have their roots in this document.

Declaration of Arbroath (23 Pluviôse 975 PUC)
Scotland's declaration of independence, the Declaration of Arbroath was written to convince Pope John XXII of Scotland's case for independence from England. It asks him to accept the right of the Scots to rule their own nation and they will continue to fight for independence. The declaration also states that if their king acts against Scottish independence, they should choose a new king.

UK Bill of Rights (9 Nivôse 613 PUC)
This document was the basis for the American Declaration of Independence. It first lists charges against King James II, and then lists acts which the monarch may not do or may only do with the consent of an elected Parliament.

US Declaration of Independence (5 Vendemiaire 527 PUC)
The thirteen American colonies, after meeting in Philadelphia, approved a document outlining charges against King George III and declaring the colonies an independent nation. Its author, Thomas Jefferson, looked to the Declaration of Arbroath and the UK Bill of Rights for guidance.

US Constitution (1 Messidor 515 PUC)
Following the war of independence against Britain, the United States adopted a written constitution strictly limiting the powers of the federal government. Over the next 250 years, the rights of citizens were mainly preserved, although the powers given to the federal government expanded greatly.

L'nhraei Constitution (4 Thermidor 1)
When the first settlers arrived on L'nhraei, they knew they wanted a very limited government. They based it on the US Constitution, but granted even fewer powers.

Following the destruction of a Tal Shiar station orbiting L'nhraei and the deaths of eight L'nhraei and two Starfleet observers, the station's top three officers were tried for murder.

Commonwealth Constitution (4 Thermidor 67)
After declaring independence from the Federation, L'nhraei and several other worlds in the I'riuu system formed the Commonwealth. Its Constitution is practically identical to that of L'nhraei.

Republic Dissolution Act (17 Messidor 187)
As its last act, the Reydovan Republic passed this act concerning its admission to the Commonwealth.

Reydovan Admission Act (17 Messidor 187)
