§ 522. Perjury.
1. No person shall be convicted of perjury in the first degree unless it can be proven that they intentionally made a false statement in any government proceeding under oath or affirmation or intentionally caused another person to make a false statement in any government proceeding under oath or affirmation, and the statement could have affected the course or outcome of the proceeding.
2. No person shall be convicted of perjury in the second degree unless it can be proven that they intentionally made a false statement under oath or affirmation or intentionally caused another person to make a false statement under oath or affirmation and intentionally meant for such statement to interfere with the performance of a government official or employee's duties.
3. No person shall be convicted of perjury in the third degree unless it can be proven that they intentionally made a false statement or intentionally caused another person to make a false statement and intentionally meant for such statement to interfere with the performance of a government official or employee's duties.
4. Retracting the false statement before it substantially affected the course or outcome of the proceeding shall be a defence to perjury in the first degree.
5. Retracting the false statement before it substantially interfered with the government official or employee's duties shall be a defence to perjury in the second and third degrees.
6. Conviction shall require more than the testimony of one person.
7. Perjury in the first degree shall be punished by damages of not less than £50 and not more than £50,000.
8. Perjury in the second degree shall be punished by damages of not less than £25 and not more than £25,000.
9. Perjury in the third degree shall be punished by damages of not less than £12 10s and not more than £12,500.
10. Only the losing party in the proceedings in which the defendant
was testifying may charge perjury.
