L'nhraei
L'nhraei is the third planet in the I'riuu system, and the earliest settled world in the Commonwealth. Its capital is ch'Taala, which, upon the formation of the Commonwealth, also became the Commonwealth capital.
The largest continent, Pannotia, was named for a supercontinent on Earth which existed around 600 million years ago during Earth's Precambrian Era. As it is so large, it contains a wide variety of climates ranging from tundra to desert to tropical forest. Three-quarters of L'nhraei's two billion people live on Pannotia, with about 20 million within 100 miles of ch'Taala. Pannotia also has the planet's largest lake, Lake Jefferson, named for the Terran philosopher and politician Thomas Jefferson, and the longest river, the tr'Irhe, named for Rihannsu scientist Ateiraulh tr'Irhe.
Laurasia was also named for a prehistoric continent on Earth, one of the two resulting from the breakup of Pangaea. Almost 500 million people live there, and the climate is much more tropical, becoming somewhat more temperate to the north. The Aeheva Mountains separate western and eastern Laurasia, and the continent is separated from Pannotia by two narrow seas.
The third continent, Arctica, remains permanently frozen, with the surrounding waters also developing ice during the winter months. There are several thousand people living on Arctica during the summer, most of them scientists. The population drops to a few hundred in the winter. Many of the visitors come to either see or climb Mt Freedom, the planet's tallest mountain, reaching 29,668 feet above sea level.
L'nhraei also has many islands, the largest being L'Kar. About 10,000 people live there, mostly along its northern edge. L'Kar remains covered with ice throughout the year, although there are some ice-free areas along the coast. Most islands on L'nhraei are in the Panthalassic Ocean and were formed by volcanoes, much like those in Earth's Pacific Ocean. These islands are also sparsely populated, but due to their tropical climate, are popular holiday spots.
L'nhraei has one moon, Selene.
