Chancellor Underwood returns to his office after six months in Imperial-imposed exile.

FIRST CITY, REYDOVAN PRIME (20 August 2502 [9 Ventôse 186]): Reydovan Chancellor Joshua Underwood returns in triumph to the galactic stage for the first time in nearly six months since his abduction and exile by the insane Emperor Joshmaul the Second in February.

Underwood, who has been the Reydovan Chancellor for over a year now, addressed the entire galaxy this morning. "There will be no more invasions, no more battles," he said, referring to the Imperial attacks on Starbase Tranquility over the last year and a half. "The Empire is dead, the Imperial Family executed or imprisoned for life. Everyone can relax.....Joshmaul the Destroyer's legacy has ended." Joshmaul the First had been the first ruler of the Reydovan Empire, who ruled for over two centuries, from 2296 to 2501 [17 PUC to 185].

"Remember this, friends," Underwood continued. "The Empire is dead. The dictatorial leadership we once knew is now at an end. A new era of peace has reached the twelve systems of Reydovan, and I am fervently hoping that peace remains in effect into the next millenium. That will be my promise to my people, and to everyone watching today."

The battles between the IAP and the Reydovan Empire began shortly after the supposed assassination of Joshmaul the First in February 2501 [Fructidor 185]. Joshmaul himself reappeared in the fray for the last time on June 17, 2501 [12 Nivôse 185], when he was killed in the Second Battle of Tranquility.

Underwood next addressed the Reydovan Parliament and told them that the incidents with Imperial-allied psychopaths would not be repeated. "Never again will we be taken unawares by any foreign agency," Underwood said. "We must be on our strictest guard in the event anything goes completely wrong."

Acting Reydovan Chancellor Padraig Norris said the Chancellor's return came at a good time, and he gladly returned to his post as Deputy Chancellor when Underwood arrived on Reydovan Prime. Republic politics are slowly returning to normal, and the Warmaster Council is trying to find new members to replace the turncoat Warmasters who betrayed Reydovan Prime to serve the Emperor.

As soon as he returned to office at 9:15pm Reydovan Daylight Time [8:52 LMT], Underwood contacted L'nhraei Commonwealth Ambassador Natasha Stuart, his longtime contact, and requested to reopen negotiations between the Republic and the Commonwealth.
