Starbase Tranquility Attacked by Reydovan Empire
STARBASE TRANQUILITY (LNN) – Several hours ago, the Hyperion I, the personal cruiser of Chancellor Underwood of the Reydovan Directorate, was destroyed by a fleet of 15,000 ships from the Reydovan Empire. Shortly thereafter, the starbase and Intergalactic Alliance of Powers Council room were invaded by several thousand imperial Reydovan guards.
As starbase guards fought the invaders, the imperial guards in the Council room attempted to capture Chancellor Underwood, who had been taken to medbay to treat injuries suffered from the explosion of the Hyperion impacting the station. Emperor Joshmaul, presumed dead since an assassination attempt on 16 Brumaire, appeared in the Council room demanding that the Chancellor be turned over immediately.
Within an hour of the attack, a United Federation of Planets fleet led by the USS Pacifica and USS Rome arrived and engaged the imperial Reydovan ships. The battle was soon joined by forces from the Rihannsu Empire and the Reydovan Directorate.
Three thousand imperial Reydovan ships, including the Emperor's ship, the Absolution, were lost in the battle. The remainder retreated to Reydovan space. Of the approximately 2400 Federation, Rihannsu, and Directorate ships, around 100 were destroyed.
Many of the ambassadors to the IAP, particularly those from the Federation and Reydovan Directorate, were discussing war against the Reydovan Empire in response to this attack. In a statement by Commonwealth Ambassador Natasha Stuart, she said, "While the Commonwealth condemns this attack on Starbase Tranquility, this conflict is an internal one between the Reydovan Empire and Reydovan Directorate. The Commonwealth does not participate in such conflicts, nor will we aid any nation who chooses to participate on either side of this conflict."
