Re: Opening Diplomatic Notes to L’nhraei Commonwealth of Planets

From: The L’nhraei Commonwealth of Planets State Department
On behalf of the citizens thereof

Sunday, 9 Fructidor 185 ab urbe condita

We are honoured to receive recognition by the new Alliance and Arch-Prime Minister Wolf, as many of the former nations now comprising the Alliance formerly granted us. We hope the Commonwealth’s relationship with the Alliance will be a peaceful one.

The Commonwealth and Alliance seem to have two goals in common, ensuring prosperity and preventing war. While ensuring safety by giving up sovereignty is not a concept the Alliance agrees with, the Commonwealth does recognise the right of people to govern themselves in the manner they see fit, and recognises Arch-Prime Minister Wolf and his government as the legitimate government of the Alliance of Incorporated Worlds and the members and citizens therein.

Your professed curiosity in the Commonwealth is certainly welcome, and citizens of the Alliance, like those of all nations, are free to travel to and within in the Commonwealth. The Commonwealth is not a member of the Intergalactic Alliance of Powers, but rather an observer, and it seems very unlikely at this time that we will join such an Alliance.

As for trade, the Commonwealth has always had and will continue to have free and open markets. Any person within the Alliance is welcome to conduct business here, and those companies founded by citizens of the former nations which now make up the Alliance will not be affected under Commonwealth law by the change in government in any way. Alliance citizens or companies who choose to travel or locate here will be expected to follow all Commonwealth laws, a requirement of all who enter the Commonwealth, including the payment of tax for goods or services sold within the Commonwealth. While the government of the Commonwealth cannot speak for individual companies, we are sure that many of them will be very eager to trade with citizens of the Alliance, and we hope they are allowed to do so.

An embassy from the Alliance is welcome in our capital ch’Taala, or other cities the Alliance may wish to place embassies in. We wish co-operation and understanding between our peoples, and will consider sending an observer to your Councils. This seems likely, but it will have to be approved by our Parliament.

One final note: the proper way to refer to the Commonwealth is the L’nhraei Commonwealth of Planets, the L’nhraei Commonwealth, or the Commonwealth. "L’nhraei" signifies only one world in the Commonwealth, 20 Leonis Minoris III. This can cause offence to those citizens who live on our other worlds.

The Commonwealth accepts your friendship, and we look forward to learning more about your new nation.

Honourably,
Mirok tr’Riuhvei
L’nhraei Commonwealth of Planets Secretary of State
