This statue was based on Hans Christian Anderson's Fairytale,  The Little Mermaid.  He was such a good writer, that many of his quotes and books are still famous today!

Denmark is a small, but very progressive county.  Dan's grandfather, Soren Sofus Rasmussen came from Nykøbing on the island of Sjælland, near Kobenhaven (Copenhagen).  Dans grandmother, Anne Kirstine Hansen, and her family came from Ringe and Odense on the island of Fyn.  Many other Danish families --  especially those we met in Wisconsin, came from the mainland -- Jutland.

Denmark has one of the oldest and most beautiful amusement parks in the world:  Tivoli Gardens.  They also have Legoland -- that's right folks, leggos are a Danish invention!
