"Unions have been the only powerful and effective voice working people have ever had in the history of this country."
--Bruce Springsteen

Decent health care. Better pay and benefits. Dignity and a voice. There are plenty of reasons to join a union today. But for many of us, there simply isn’t a union where we work. That’s when we have to join together and find power through organizing.

1000 of us — Metro Government Employees from Accountants to Zoo Workers — made the decision to organize with AFSCME. We joined 1.4 million current AFSCME members and together we’re taking on powerful politicians and employers to win justice for working people.

Organizing isn’t easy. It takes guts to stand up for our rights on the job. It takes lots of one-on-one conversations at work and at home to build our organization. It takes talented and committed organizers who know the ropes and are willing to work hard.

But it’s also rewarding. When we stick together, have faith and overcome fear, we are an inspiration to our families and our communities.

When we win — and there’s no feeling like it — we make the world a better place for all.
How should I choose a Union to best represent my interests?

Go with a Union that already has a contract that covers you. Only AFSCME has a contract and experience that already covers over 100 job classifications.

Go with a Union that has bargaining power and a track record.  There is  strength in numbers.  Do you want to go against this administration as a individual hoping for respect or as part of a team of almost 1000 Metro Employees who have a long history of contract strength?  AFSCME can offer that advantage.

Go with a Union where your voice will be heard.  AFSCME is run by its members. Every member has a vote in the election of local union officers and board members.
