In the AFSCME structure, Local Unions join together in Councils to provide professional field representation, secretarial and bookkeeping services, research, education and training and to take maximum advantage of international Union resources and programs.
District Council 62 was chartered by the International Union to provide administrative and field services to AFSCME Local Unions in Indiana and Kentucky representing more than 25,000 employees working in state, cities, counties, schools, universities, and private nonprofit hospitals. With more than 100 labor contracts in place, Council 62 is recognized as being one of the most aggressive and fastest growing unions in Indiana and Kentucky.
We are the largest public employee union in Indiana and Kentucky. As a part of the most powerful union in the nation, as well as one of the largest, AFSCME Council 62 has the resources to get its members to the bargaining table and to negotiate top-rate contracts.
