MEDITATION
"Every good gift and every perfect gift
is from above, and cometh down
from the Father of lights,
with whom is no variableness,
neither shadow of turning."
James 1:17
"...as many as are not stiff-necked,
and have faith, have communion
with the Holy Spirit,
which makes manifest
to the children of men
according to their faith."
Jarom 1:8-9
"...I have heard your prayers
when you have cried out to me...
If you will come before me
in unity and love I will bless you
with great outpouring of compassion,
both for one another and for the world
into which you are sent."
Doctrine and Covenants 157: 16b-17

EXCERPT
from Roy Cheville, The Patriarch Years
A Biography
by
Malcolm L. Ritchie
1997
From Dr. Cheville letter to a good friend in 1971: "Belief in God"
...I see the Holy Spirit as the spiritual, personal presence of the divine, functioning in the Universe...we are reminded that this spiritual presence, this power pervades the universe and affords life and light. A tremendous affirmation. This Holy spirit identifies God working in the Universe with people. Here God is wanting the people to accord with the fullness of reality, including the spiritual. So shall man becme a "new creation" developing life of eternal quality. This God has an ongoing program...The creative process goes on, This includes the creating of people, people who grow in fullness of relationshi with the fullness of the life-affording powers of the Universe.
God is wanting the person to come to come into fullness of right relationships with his God, with his Universe, with his fellows (all men) and with himself. God has a worthy conception of man. Most religions make man a wreck who is diabolical and depraved. God wants every man to live as his son.
To do this God arranges for a nucleus group with special assignment. This is the functioning of the "chosen people." This for functioning, not for favoritism. God called the Hebrews to function to reveal him to the world. Often they became more concerned with their privileges and their favoritistic status and they lost out. Today God is needing ever so many nuclei to work with him. Competency never comes through opening up to anybody without requirements. The Restoration church has a call to mission. Many twist this and make it a call to favoritism. The "chosen people" conception is the way of competency and service. It can become the conception of secluded apartness and privilege. The church as a chosen people has to be working with God on his mission.
And getting with God and knowing God requires more than looking on from the bleachers or observation platform. We have to get in the game with God and adventure in the laboratory of living. This seeking is more than asking questions. This calls for searching and applying in the quest. God has never given me ready-made, finalized answers. ...I have always had to explore. And the exploring continues. What a thrill!..
