Tournament Players Clubs Add Club CarÕs 1-PASSTo Improve Access, Enjoyment for Golfers with DisabilitiesAUGUSTA, GA (February 18, 2002) Ð Club Car recently completed delivery of its 1-PASSª single-passenger adaptive golf cars to the PGA TOUR's 21 Tournament Players Clubs and the Golf Club of Jacksonville, which was developed in partnership between the TOUR and the City of Jacksonville, FL. Club CarÕs 1-PASS golf cars are specially designed to improve access to courses and enhance the enjoyment of the game for golfers with disabilities. PGA TOUR Golf Course Properties, a subsidiary of the PGA TOUR that owns and/or operates the Tournament Players Clubs, is the first golf course management company to provide the 1-PASS to all of its clubs. ÒThe 1-PASS golf cars complement the comprehensive package of services and amenities we offer our members and their guests at our private clubs as well as guests at our resort and daily fee facilities,Ó said Pete Davison, senior vice president and chief operating officer, Tournament Players Clubs, which are owned and operated by PGA TOUR Golf Course Properties, Inc., a subsidiary of the PGA TOUR. ÒWe are committed to ensuring that all of our members and guests are able to enjoy the full benefit of their clubs, and this unique golf car provides equal access to players with -more- Club Car: TPC Courses Add 1-PASS Ð 2 disabilities.Ó Bob Schmonsees, who lives at TPC at Avenel at Potomac, MD, is glad to see the TPC increase access throughout its network. ÒI think the TPC courses are going to be very pleasantly surprised at the number of new golfers and incremental rounds they see as a result of adding these golf cars,Ó said Schmonsees, who lost the use of his legs in a skiing accident several years ago. ÒWhat a lot of people donÕt realize is that when a player with a disability goes out to play, we often take two or three able-bodied players with us. So that can add up.Ó Doug Meredith, general manager of the TPC at Sugarloaf in Duluth, GA, said adding the 1-PASS vehicles is not only a good business decision, but also the right thing to do. ÒThe business decision goes hand-in-hand with our desire to make sure we open our doors to all individuals, and that includes someone who needs some assistance due to a handicap,Ó he said. Davison said the Tournament Players Clubs would actively promote the new golf cars and improved access through correspondence and direct mail to members and other prospective players. ÒFor golfers with disabilities, access and a welcoming attitude is all we ask,Ó said Schmonsees, 54, a management consultant in Potomac, MD. The 1-PASS meets or exceeds safety and stability standards established by the American National Standards Institute and offers a number of features specific to the disabled golferÕs needs, including six-inch ground clearance for increased accessibility -more- Club Car: TPC Courses Add 1-PASS Ð 3 on the course and throughout the golf facility; ergonomic hand controls; and a multi-position, lockable 360-degree swivel seat to help players accommodate uneven lies and address the ball properly. ÒThe seat helps me get into a good golfing posture and make the same adjustments an able-bodied player makes with his hips and legs,Ó Schmonsees said. The 1-PASS cars are friendly to greens and tees because their four-wheel, automotive-type suspension transfers only six to seven pounds of pressure per square inch, about half the pressure applied by an average man while standing and significantly less than standard golf cars. In addition to the benefits offered to golfers with disabilities, the 1-PASS also helps golf courses comply with the requirements of the Americans With Disabilities Act of 1990, which mandated complete access to all public-access facilities. The 1-PASS golf cars are manufactured by Englewood, CO-based SoloRider Industries www.solorider.com, a pioneer in accessibility vehicles, and distributed through Club CarÕs global distribution network. Club Car, Inc. provides golf cars, transportation and utility vehicle solutions for golf, agricultural, recreational and industrial markets.
