ARC v2.52 (750 KB) Complete Program

This program was written by a Traffic Accident Investigator for the use of Traffic Accident Investigators & Reconstructionists. While there are several DOS based Accident calculators on the market, there were no Windows based programs that were inexpensive and available without a major outlay by either an individual accident investigator or a small police department. The program was written in Microsoft Visual Basic 3 Pro, a graphical programming language to allow for ease of use. The program is made up of several modules, each of which does a specific calculation often needed by the accident reconstructionist or investigator. These range from determining the speed of a braking vehicle from the skid marks left on the roadway, to the critical speed of a curve or Velocity of a vehicle derived from the momentum of two vehicles. This program allows the investigator to make his measurements at the scene and then enter those measurements into the module. The program then does all the needed mathematical calculations and presents a final answer on-screen. The investigator can then have the calculator print out the measurements, the formula used, all the intermediate steps and the final answer directly to the printer or to the Windows clipboard for inclusion in a report prepared with another program.

On-line Help

The program has extensive on-line help available from within the program. The program and on-line help has been designed with the idea that no manual should be needed for reference. The program has been designed for ease of use and the investigator should be immediately able to begin using it to assist him in his investigations.

Automatic Installation

You may either download the program here

ARC v2.52 (300 KB) Does not include VBRUN300.DLL or automatic setup

ARC v2.52 (750 KB) Complete Program Includes VBRUN300.DLL & A setup program

or obtain it direct from the author. A setup program is included on the disk from the author. To use the online version please follow these instructions:

Complete version: After Unzipping the file into an empty directory or onto a disk run Setup from either the directory or the disk. Just put the disk in drive A, select File from the Program Manager menu, and then select Run. Type in A:\setup and the program will automatically install, copying the correct files where they belong and create the program group and icons for you.

Small version: After unzipping the file into a directory, copy the ARC250.exe and ARC250.HLP file into the directory where you want the program. You will also need to copy the two files CMDIALOG.VBX and COMMDLG.DLL into your Windows\System Directory. You can now create an icon in Windows to run the program with. (If you don't understand these instructions please download the complete version and let setup do it for you.)

NOTE: The Windows Visual Basic File vbrun300.dll is not included in the 300KB ZIP file to keep the download time to a minimum. This file can be found on many sites on the web including Microsoft Software Library (after connecting to this site do a search on vbrun300.dll.) or at FTP from Microsoft Software Library OR ELSE just download the full version here and get it included.

Minimum Requirements

The Accident Reconstruction Calculator v2.52 requires a 386 or higher computer, 2 megabytes of memory, running DOS 5.0 or greater and Windows 3.1 or Windows 95. A mouse is recommended for ease of use. A hard drive is recommended, however the program only needs 1 megabyte of hard drive space. ARC version 2.52 is very Windows friendly, in that it adds no extra lines to any Windows file and adds no lines to any other file for that matter.

Benefits of Use

  1. The program is fast & easy to use, allowing even new users to begin using the program immediately.
  2. Eliminates common mathematical errors encountered in complex calculations. The calculator currently works with over 60 formulas.
  3. A Microsoft Windows based program which allows the results to be copied to and used in almost any other Windows based program.
  4. Allows the complete Formula, steps and final answer to be printed out for inclusion in a report or saved to a file.

Cost

The Accident Reconstruction Calculator is available as shareware (try before you buy) and registration is only $10.00 ($15.00 with disk and free upgrade to next version) for a single user/computer. Site Licenses and volume purchases are available and the author should be contacted directly. If you would like an evaluation copy of the program on disk please send e-mail to the author. (A nominal fee of $3.00 is asked to cover the disk & postage)

Version 2.00 Changes from Version 1

Added the printing routines so you can print out the formula, steps and answer. Fixed the Answer displays so that the last digit is no longer cut in half sometimes. Cleaned up the code and recompiled with Visual Basic 3 Pro. Changed to a Multiple Document Interface (MDI) for the main Window.

Version 2.50 Changes from Version 2

The formula your currently using is now displayed by the main program. Corrected a minor bug that would erase any changes the user made to the results form whenever another equation was added to the results. Added the following new formula modules: 360 degree linear momentum, Motorcycle Equations, & Center of Mass equations. Put time/distance/velocity equations in their own module

Version 2.51 Changes from Version 2.50

Fixed a minor problem in the 360 degree linear momentum formula.

Version 2.52 Changes from Version 2.51 05/10/96

Fixed a problem in formula 30, Falls, Flips & Vaults that resulted in the wrong answers in the print routine. The Answer shown in the module was correct.

For those of you who have already down loaded the calculator you can tell what version your using by looking at the time stamp on the arc250.exe file.
