Landscape Art: Cows on hillside

What's a landscape without a few cows? Learn how to draw a cow using the tools in your computer paint program. Put them out to pasture on the landscape you drew in the Shrinking Trees project. With a simple cut, your cow can graze on the hillside. Just slide her along the bottom of the picture.

What You'll Need:
Landscape art from Shrinking Trees project
Computer paint program, such as Kid Pix®
(or pattern from this page)
Pencil
Scissors
Glue stick
Printer with black ink

What To Do:

At your computer, open a painting program such as Kid Pix®, ClarisWorks/Paint, or Windows Paint.

Draw a cow in 4 simple steps.
Step 1: Use your oval tool to make 4 ovals, as shown.
Step 2: Use your pencil tool to draw the shape of the head. Add eyes, nostrils, and ear details.
Step 3: The line tool works great for legs. Use the pencil tool for the tail and udder.
Step 4: Our cow is called a Holstein. They are white with black patches. Draw a few wiggly spots and fill them in with your paintbucket tool.
Print 2 copies of your cow. One copy should be at a large size, to fit the size of the tree closet to you in your landscape. The second copy should be smaller, about 50%.

Another option:
Print the cows that we've drawn. Click here for the pattern.
Use a pencil to add a 3 inch long strip under the large cow, at its belly. Cut the cow out, including the strip. Cut the smaller cow out.
Hold your colored landscape art from the Shrinking Trees project. Cut a slot along the lower part of the picture, about 1/2 inch from the bottom. Glue the smaller cow to the upper part of the picture, near the smaller tree. Slide the strip of the large cow into the slot. Slide the cow back and forth along the landscape.
