Peace Dove Ornament

Make an ornament in the symbol of peace - a dove. We'll color him in shades of blue, green, and purple. These cool colors make people feel calm and relaxed.

What You'll Need:
Crayons or color markers (at least 3)
Blues, Greens, and Purples
Scissors
Glue stick
Ribbon or yarn
Computer paint program, such as Kid Pix
(or pattern from this page)
Printer with black ink

What To Do:

At your computer, open a painting program such as Kid Pix, ClarisWorks/Paint, or Windows Paint. Draw the body of a dove. Add a 1/2 inch line across the center of the body, this is the slot where the wing will be inserted. Print one copy and cut out.

- If your software has the option of flipping images: make a copy of your dove drawing, paste a duplicate, and flip the duplicate horizontally. The two images can be cut out and glued back to back for a 2-sided ornament.
Draw a 6" by 4" rectangle. This is the wing. Decorate it with patterns, if you'd like. Print one copy and cut out.
Color each pattern piece using blue, green, and purple crayons or markers. Turn each piece over and add color to its back side, too. (Or glue flipped pattern to reverse side.) Cut the slot in the body for the wing.
Accordion-fold the wing piece into 1/2" pleats, starting from the narrow side. Pinch the folded wing in half, open slightly and insert through the wing slot in the body of the dove. Pull the wings together at the top and glue.
Make a small hole at the top of the wing and thread with a piece of yarn to hang.
