The notice that was sent to the Cheltenham residents:

* Please also see Cheltenham News
for current information on the sidewalks

The resurfacing of the streets is scheduled to occur late this summer.  It is the responsibility of the homeowner to keep their sidewalks in good conditon.  No repatching is permitted.  The areas that have to be fixed have been marked (by the inspector) with a green dot.  If you wish, an on-site meeting with the inspector can be arranged.

The notice continues to say:

3. Serious cracking, deterioration or spalling of the concrete.

Interference with main roots of shade trees in any matter that would be injurious and detrimental to the tree is prohibited.  Listed below are acceptable criteria for replacement of sidewalk blocks raised by tree roots.  If a serious problem exists, the Township Engineer must be consulted.

  1. A gradual ramping of the sidewalk blocks on either side of the tree, to provide for a gradual ramp and return to existing sidewalk grade.

  2. In some cases, the sidewalk can be narrowed when replaced, and curved around a tree where only the lower tree trunk has grown into the sidewalk:

    1. 3' minimum width is acceptable (most residential blocks are 4' wide);
    2. it is permissible for the property owner to use some of their own property instead of the public right of way to allow for the curvature of the sidewalk around a tree.

Attached for your convenience, is an informational sheet regarding the Township's annual low bid contract for this type of work, as well as the Township fee schedule.  You are welcomed to take advantage of these competitive prices or contract with a vendor of your choosing.

Thank you for your anticipated cooperation
