Now, there are still problems and "kinks" that have to be worked out:

  • even though the broadcast is suppose to run 24 Hours a day, such is not always the case. The server may be down, the page may down due to repairs or there may be a configuration problem with your computer.
  • The broadcast is configured for DSL modem speeds. This means that if you are using a dial up modem then that means that your modem is too slow to hear the broadcast correctly. Don't worry though because I'm working on having the broadcast being able to be heard with with dial up modems speeds. Just give me a little time.

How You Can Help To Save Internet Radio!

added 8/25/07

Dear Live365 Broadcasters,

On March 21st, I wrote you regarding the initial ruling by the Copyright Royalty Board (CRB) announcing catastrophically high new royalty rates as well as a $500/year minimum per station. Despite the outcry of nearly all webcasters, the CRB denied the request for a rehearing and has proceeded with their original ruling.

In response to these new and unfair fees, Representative Jay Inslee (D-WA) introduced the Internet Radio Equality Act (HR 2060) on April 26th. This bill will provide immediate relief from the proposed new rates and can save thousands of Internet radio stations from going off the air.

Live365 and the other members of the SaveNetRadio Coalition fully support this proposal and are working diligently to see it turned into law. The next step is to line up cosponsors for HR 2060, but time is running short. We ask that you IMMEDIATELY:

  • CALL your Representative and ask them to cosponsor HR 2060 -- the Internet Radio Equality Act.

  • NOTIFY -- YOUR LISTENERS, ARTISTS, and FRIENDS -- and have them call THEIR Representatives with the same request to cosponsor HR 2060.

We thank you again for all of the great support so far. Let's keep the momentum building into a crescendo that everyone can hear.

Sincerely,
Jason Stoddard
Director, Broadcasting

PS. It looks like Live365 will be observing the "Day of Silence" on May 8th. More information to come...

Dear Live365 Broadcasters:

Recently, the Copyright Royalty Board (CRB) issued alarmingly high new royalty rates for Internet radio for the 2006-2010 period. The ruling increases record company royalties by 140% over 4 years and includes a $500 minimum fee per channel per year. With around 10,000 stations that would mean an additional $5 million per year for Live365 and our broadcasters. Should this decision stand, Live365 would be forced to raise broadcasting fees well beyond the budget of most small webcasters, thus silencing their stations. The CRB's determination imperils small and large webcasters alike and threatens listening experiences of millions of Internet radio listeners.

Questions & Answers

Hi I was very interested in your site. Are you involved in the radio station? I am interested in setting up a radio station myself, and would like some feedback on the company that they use.

Actually I like the service very well. I had always planned to have my own radio station but thought that I would be using the conventional "equipment" Route in order to broadcast it from my home. But with the advent of Internet I do like this much better (although I may do the "equipment" thing in addition"). Having an Internet Radio station gives you a more broader audience and you're only limited by your imagination (and of course the company's guidelines). Mine is a more community based radio station for my local area.

But there are many different other formats as well such as the conventional jazz, soul, pop, rock and the unconventional like talk shows with different subjects. You can either prepare your broadcasts offline and then upload them or you can broadcast live.

Again, thank you for asking.
