The LaMott AME Church Hello,
I was sitting at my computer and a nostalgic whim hit me, I decided to see
if the historic place Lamott had a web site. Sure enough there it was, when
I saw the picture of LaMott A.M.E. church tears began to fill my eyes. I grew
up in that church. I am a direct desendant of the Tripplett family. My
great- grand mother was a Tripplett who married a Wester. Her name was Olive
Wester she had two sisters both of which were long time residents of LaMott,
Molly and Evelyn. My great grand had one daughter Rebbeca Lillian who married
Iassac Ryder who were my grand parents. My mother and father both grew up in
LaMott, Sidney Tanner and Charmaine (Ryder) Tanner. My grand mother passed
away in 2000 that was the last time I had been in the church, I had not been
there since I was in my late teens some 30 years ago. I have some serious
memories about the town and especially the church we never missed a sunday.
My grandmother was one of the oldest members along with Mr Waynes who is a
distant cousin. WoW I am so excited I may take a trip there,
William Browser was my mothers uncle. The Butcher side is also related to us.
Well I must go thank-you for the great web site, to touch some of my past was
a joy and a blessing.

Boy Scouts of America? Hi, I am a resident of Melrose Park; My family and I live at ~ Vernon Road. I'm always at LaMott on Election Day, where I have served for many years, first as ~ and then as ~. Today, as I was running past the LaMott Community Center, I was dismayed to see lawn signs advertising the cub scouts. The Boy Scouts of America (BSA), of which the cub scouts are a part, is a notoriously homophobic group that I do not believe reflect the values of the Cheltenham Township. In fact, the organization took a legal suit all the way to the US Supreme Court to protect their right to discriminate against gays. (I have attached a link to one of the many web sites that discuss this issue.) It is for that reason that many public entities, school districts, United Way chapters, religious organizations and private individuals across the nation have taken a stand again the Boy Scouts of America and have stopped sponsoring, funding, and giving special treatment to BSA; many more have publicly called on BSA to end its discriminatory practices. I am curious about how the Cub Scouts were allowed to post their material and whether they have an ongoing relationship with the Cheltenham Township. I would like to see the material removed, and a policy written disassociating the township from the Boy Scouts of America. I would be more than willing to work on this issue in whatever way I can. I appreciate your attention and await your response.
Thank you,
D~ |

New Trees! In the near future there will be a team of landscape architects who will be visiting the LaMott, Lynnewood Gardens, Glenside and Melrose Park areas to scope out the best area sites for tree plantings. If your property is chosen (and you are the property owner) you will be contacted about the planting(s). Only native trees can be selected and the list includes sugar maple trees and some specific oak trees. The trees will be provided free of charge (courtesy of state and county grants) however you as the property owner must provide maintenance and care. If you are a property owner in the areas mentioned above you can contact the Township Manager to be considered for tree planting. Cheltenham Township has received several awards for its ongoing progress with forestry in the community. For more information about this program please be sure to visit Cheltenham Township's Official Website at: |

Chaplain Program A Chaplain Program has been introduced by the Cheltenham Police to better serve and help the community. Trained counselors, who are chaplains of different faiths, will be available for residents (and the police officers themselves) to offer support in areas such as comforting grieving families during death notifications and to also assist in police related matters and other crises. These chaplains will each carry official Cheltenham Police Chaplain badges and they will be on duty 4 - 6 hours each month. The objective of this volunteer program is to help strengthen the bonds between the police and the community and the local religious groups and to help provide an extra layer of support for the area residents that are in need. For more information residents can contact the Community Policing Unit at: |

Hi I am doing some research of my family name- LaMott! What is the history of the LaMott name? Did any LaMott's live in the town of LaMott? Sincerely, D~ H
Thank you for your email. In answer to your questions above I would have to do some more research. I know that this area is named for Lucretia Mott. But I don't know too much about the name itself or any of the relatives associated with the name. |

Hello my name is --- and I found your web site under the cheltenham township.org It's very informative and I am considering moving to Cheltenham. However I do not know the area very well. I am an African American women with a small child and a husband who is looking for a good community to live in with out sacrificing ethnic diversity I have now living in philadelphia. I am aware of LaMott's history but can you tell me more about LaMott county as of today. What is the demographic, the education level and average income of those who live in the area? Is the community family oriented or is it occupied by a much older group. Are the streets safe and quite. If I purchase a home in the area are grants available base on the revitalization program? Any information or direction to the appropriate person is greatly appreciated.

"Years ago, I lived in Oak Lane on 11th Street, West Oak Lane on Beverly Road, Mount Airy on Fayette Street, also in Flourtown and Wyncote. LaMott is still a part of our life as I have been on Adams Avenue for about fifteen years.
I was able to bring your LaMott Directory up afterall, and it was interesting reading the diverse material about the area and some of the projects yet undone. Nice going!"
