Chess Club
Now in its tenth season, the Chess Club meets every Monday evening that the Centre opens, 7 pm until 10 pm (home matches 10.30 pm) usually in the Common Room. Away matches are occasionally played on other days of the week. If, with the many competing outdoor activities during the summer months, numbers fall below a practicable level, we suspend our club nights and arrangements are made for our members to play at other nearby clubs. Our three teams play in the Bournemouth Chess League. The ‘A’ team play in Division 1, Champions in 2000/1, and where they meet Dorset’s strongest players. Our ‘B’ team play in Division 3. The ‘C’ team play in Division 4 and gives our newest members a taste of competitive chess. Results are regularly reported on the sports page of the local press. Several of our members play for Dorset or Hampshire at the county level. Our members play successfully at the Dorset Closed Congress in Bournemouth. Membership is open to any member of L.C.A. and their children but guests are always welcomed for an introductory period. Modest additional subscriptions from the over 18s help towards the cost of room hire. The club is very keen to recruit many more players of all ages and playing strengths. Further details from the Secretary, Kevin Ault .
The Theatregoers Committee organises coach trips to plays, ballet, musicals and orchestral concerts. The venues include Salisbury, Chichester, Poole Southampton, Bournemouth, Guildford and London. Membership is limited to L.C.A. members and a small annual subscription is levied
to cover administrative costs. New members are welcome and there is no waiting list. Application forms are available at the L.C.A. Reception

This old-established and thriving Club for the senior citizens holds its meetings at the Centre on the 2nd and 4th Mondays from 2 pm. The business starts at 2.15 pm followed by a speaker, video or varied entertainment. Other events and outings are arranged during the year. Membership is £3.75 per year from September 8th. A small charge is made per meeting to cover refreshments.

We welcome members of LCA to join this new Club, which started in May 2003. Short mat bowls is an enjoyable social and competitive game for all, including young people and those with disabilities. You do not need to have played bowls before and bowls are available. The only requirement is flat, smooth footwear, without heels; suitable shoes are available in various sizes. We play on most Monday afternoons 2.30 to 4.30 and Tuesday afternoons 3.30 to 5.30 in the Wellington Room using two mats. We hope to arrange other sessions and social events as our Club develops, and to play friendly and competitive matches with other Clubs. The annual subscription is £30, plus £2 to cover the cost of room hire each time you play. We welcome guests for an introductory period. Please ask for more details or pick up an application form from Reception.. Secretary: Mrs Mary Goff.
