This index page was created for my art history students at the University of South Carolina Union, and Laurens campus. Since installation this index is also used, with permission, by faculty at other universities.
This page contains links to information on current courses and art history resources. This page also contains links to computing, multimedia, and Web research information to assist in assignments. It will never be complete as I continually add art history and art links. I must apologize for pages created in my early days of Web publishing, they are plain and could use some rewriting. Most of my pages are written within "plain English" guidelines for international students, and designed using simple HTML Internet language to load quickly on any computer.
My students should check this index weekly for updates.

SC State Art Collection of SC Artists (some online images - go to bottom of page), the South Carolina Arts Commission site. See a very bad photo of Elizabeth Keller's goddess "Discerning of Spirits," purchased ca. 1992. Ms. Keller teaches at Coastal Carolina University. Our class will discuss the interesting facets of this work, and this genre, popular in 1990s America and Japan.

The quality of life, particularly education and child welfare--influences human achievement and advancement, including culture like art. Visit the Louvre Online
Visiting the Louvre in Paris is highly enjoyable. However, the Louvre's online site is not second best when desiring to see work by your favorite artist.
¥Six million visitors, three from the U.S., visit the online site every year. Six million is the same number that visit the museum
¥The online site has paintings and sculpture not always on exhibit at the museum
¥The online site has over 130,000 drawings that are too fragile for museum exhibit. And you can often learn more about your favorite artist by looking at the drawings, than paintings.
¥The site has 35,000 works online
¥ By 2003 the site will have 165,000 works online
¥The Louvre is starting a site expansion projected to draw 10 to 15 million by 2010

"Plain English" is becoming the standard for the new, international role of English in the academic and business worlds. This does not mean other writing styles do not have their place. To learn more about the "plain English" movement, enter this into a good search engine like google.com. A good example of "plain English" in our academic environment is the online pages of the Graduate Program in Anthropology at the University of South Carolina. Of course, nothing is without flaws.

Collecting Art for Pleasure and Investment
Recent studies show art has a slightly better return statistically than stock investment. For example, a Warhol print selling for ca. $600 in the 1960s, is now worth over $100,000. But, greater returns can be achieved buying 'lower end' art, meaning new or unknown artists. And, you enjoy the art. I discuss starting your art collection in lecture. President Bush is reportedly currently reading Aristotle's ``Nicomachean Ethics" (c. 350 B.C.E.) (Hillel Italie, A.P., 6/21/02). Aristotle's short text addresses art in the several short "Books."
